Bubbly on a Beer Budget? I think so:)

Happy New Year's Eve everyone! So happy that you stopped by and this I hope will be a fun post for you to enjoy......I admit it, I love a little Champagne and not just on New Year's Eve and who isn't on a budget these days, right? So my quest for today's bloggedity blog blog was to answer the question, "Are there any decent Champagnes under $20!!!". GASP........:) Well I found this article on lovetoknow.com that featured several Champagnes in this price range that have been tasted and highly recommended!! Yea.........so if you haven't shopped yet, or maybe for that next special occasion, like Wow it's a New Episode of The Office Honey, print this post and take it shopping and have some fun......

All of this information was found on lovetoknow.com! The author is Jay Franz, all remarks about the bubblies are his......I haven't tried any of them yet but plan to:)

From our wonderful French Bubbly makers

Lucien Albrecht, Crémant D'Alsace.
"Brut, NV. Lucien Albrecht is located in Alsace near Colmar. This Crémant is made 100 percent from Pinot Blanc is rich with floral aromas, fruit, and tickling bubbles. Elegant. Price: $20."

Saint-Hilare, Blanquette de Limoux
"Blanc de Blancs, NV. This one will surprise you. The sparkling wine has been made for centuries in a Benedictine Abbey (Saint-Hilare) in the hills of Limoux, a small and interesting appellation south of Carcassonne close to the border with Spain. The Blanc de Blancs is primarily made of Mauzac with Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. Apple crisp with a gentle, floral, creamy, and fizzy body. $10. "

Now from the USA

Domaine Ste.-Michelle, Columbia Valley, Washington.
"Brut Classic Cuvèe NV, Blanc de Noir NV, Blanc de Blancs NV. The best thing about Domaine Ste.-Michelle is the sparkling wine mileage one gets from $10-$12. Produced in the Mèthode Champenoise way, Domaine Ste. Michelle's sparklers are consistent, pleasing, and very affordable. Price: $10-$12. "

Gloria Ferrer, Carneros, California.
"Sonoma Brut NV, Blanc de Noirs NV. Gloria Ferrer is part of Catalan's expansive
Freixenet Group. It's got the worldwide clout of the Freixenet family to give
them financial, technological, and distribution advantages. Gloria Ferrer is
located in the Carneros region wedged at the entrance of Napa and Sonoma
valleys. The Sonoma Brut is made from Pinot Noir, 87 percent and Chardonnay, 13
percent. It's a lively treat with pear-apple-citrus brightness, almonds, creamy
toast, and effervescent. The Blanc de Noirs is also a winner, with a touch more
of Pinot Noir than the Brut. The result is a more delicate balance of
strawberries and black cherries with citrus and bouncy bubbles in the creamy
finish. Has a lovely and feminine copper color for a tad of elegance. Price: $20. "

As I mentioned all of these comments were provided by Jay Franz and are his recommendations.......Let me know if you have tried any of these and what you thought!! Have a fun and safe evening:)

Award Winning Toys

Are you finished shopping yet? I'm not, still have some special toys to buy for my boys. I always love the wonderful guides that are on the internet now.....They are most helpful as some feature reviews from parents and even older kids who have played with the toy......All of the toys I have featured today have won awards from the Toy Industry Association for 2008. Maybe some will find their way on your Santa List this year! All the write-ups are quotes from the website featuring these award winners!
Toy of the Year Air Hogs Havoc Heli Laser Battle (Spin Master, Ltd.)
"Not just for kids, the Air Hogs Havoc Heli Lasers ($130) packs twin
driveprops, dual top rotors, and six way directional control into the smallestradio-controlled helicopters in the world. These helis even make the sounds of battling helicopters. Made for two players, each gets a dual-toggle, single throttle wireless control for his heli. Battles made to be fought indoors; just perfect for heli couch potatoes!

Most Innovative and most Educational Toy of the Year!

Yes, you read it right: the Smart Cycle won both Educational Toy of the
Year and Most Innovative Toy of the Year! Why not? Kids love to be active and
love to watch videos and play arcade games. So Fisher Price combined all three
in this stationary bike that hooks up to your TV. For 3 to 6 year-olds, this Smart Cycle also sneaks in a bit of schooling, teaching abc's, numbers, spelling, problem solving, and other pre-school skills. Motor coordination is supported through the use of directional movement of the bike handles and the joy stick; and the bike's speed controls how fast the lessons are played. Smart Cycle is available for about $100. Also, you can now buy many of your child's favorite toy and story characters in Smart Cycle software format, such as Dora , Sponge Bob , Dino , Elmo , HotWheels, and even Barbie !

Electronic Entertainment Toy of the year, Power Tour Electric Guitar (Tiger Electronics)

This Gibson-branded "toy" guitar is more than a mime-along, although that's fun
for all of us rockers. The
Power Tour Electric Guitar offers a really fun learning strategy for the young rocker who, by following the lights on the frets can learn the basic chords of 12 pre-loaded songs while they are playing. The accompanying DVD teaches strumming, fingering, chording, and other tricks of the trade. An MP3 player can be hooked up to the guitar so you can play along with the music of your choice. This toy has a very high customer rating as a learning device for young people and their parents! Available in black , white , and yes... pink from $30 - $60 at Amazon.com. The Power Tour Amp is sold separately for $44.99.
This is the winner of the Game of the Year. Rubik's Revolution (Techno Source)

"If you're not busy or dizzy enough, you can try the challenge of this super
Rubik's Cube. Rubik's Revolution is on speed, electronically speaking, with
flashing lights going off like crazy that you either stamp out, light up,
memorize, or beat up your friends with... I'm exhausted even writing about it.
Six programmed games are more than enough to keep you busy until the next
generation of Rubik comes along. "

Are any of these on your Child's Santa List? Happy Friday and Happy Shopping:)

The Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Or that's what it claims on Eagle brand's website anyway:) I love baking pumpkin pie and have always used the Libby recipe......This year I am trying the Eagle brand which has a ton of rave reviews on Allrecipes.com. Yummy Pumpkin Roll Recipe From Libby's

Wow doesn't this look so yummy? My Mom made one of these pumpkin rolls last year and it was so yummy.....I am thinking about trying one this year. I think she used a pampered chef recipe but I can't find it......But I did search recipe.com and this one has 5 stars and lots of helpful tips on rolling and unrolling which really intimidates me. But isn't the presentation of this just gorgeous? What yummy treats are you going to make this year.....Can you believe we are only a week away from Thanksgiving? Wow didn't my boys just start school? Where is the time flying by to? Have a great Thursday everyone and please if you have made a roll, any hints or tips are more than welcome!! :)

I took the photo and the recipe from the Nestle baking website.....

Libby's Pumpkin Roll

Ingredients:

CAKE
1/4 cup powdered sugar (to sprinkle on towel)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
1 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

FILLING
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
6 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar (optional for decoration)

Directions:FOR CAKE:PREHEAT oven to 375° F. Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly-roll pan; line with wax paper. Grease and flour paper. Sprinkle a thin, cotton kitchen towel with powdered sugar. COMBINE flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt in small bowl. Beat eggs and granulated sugar in large mixer bowl until thick. Beat in pumpkin. Stir in flour mixture. Spread evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle with nuts. BAKE for 13 to 15 minutes or until top of cake springs back when touched. (If using a dark-colored pan, begin checking for doneness at 11 minutes.) Immediately loosen and turn cake onto prepared towel. Carefully peel off paper. Roll up cake and towel together, starting with narrow end. Cool on wire rack. FOR FILLING:BEAT cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, butter and vanilla extract in small mixer bowl until smooth. Carefully unroll cake. Spread cream cheese mixture over cake. Reroll cake. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving, if desired. COOKING TIP:Be sure to put enough powdered sugar on the towel when rolling up the cake so it will not stick.

Also Nestle's has a step by step video on their website for this recipe. I will surely be visiting that!

Now for some more helpful hints, allrecipes.com has the recipe too. The first reviewer suggested using wax paper instead of the towel.....But if you have time, there are many different reviews and suggestions....
